Title: Hawaiian Horizon

Location: Maui, Hawai'i

Travel Notes: I surface from the tropical water and lie down for a short reprieve. The temperature is too warm to leave, so I rest in an area that is sometimes land and sometimes water. The ocean's liquid grip is strong, but not strong enough to pull me back in. I fold my elbows behind me to create a natural brace for my back. I swivel my head, like a periscope, to take in the view. A young couple catches my eye. They walk away from me, hand-in-hand, in no particular direction. I then look at a deeply rooted tree, struggling to remain steadfast, like me, while constantly feeling the rhythm of the sea.
